During the four editions, ALT National Choreography Competition contributed significantly to the development of the independent cultural sector, with a multidirectional development focused on:

1. Supporting contemporary choreography production and creation

ALT is one of the main players that contributes, annually, to the growth of choreographic productions and their quality.

Results: 32 original choreographic works with the duration between 15 and 20 minutes, were presented to the general public during the period 2013-2016, involving around 80 choreographers, dancers, performers, actors, musicians and multimedia artists.

2. Sustaining mobility within the country and abroad

Over time, ALT has evolved in its own expression, under the sign of the notoriety and distinct conceptions of young creators, by going through different themes and styles of expression, while being an involved observer of trends and influences in contemporary dance and performance art in Romania.

In order to help Romanian dance artists to fulfill their potential and get inspired, we started a conversation with the international scene. This translated in a mix of residencies, offered to participants in order to stimulate their professional development and artistic mobility, both in the country and abroad. The partnerships with national and foreign institutions such as Martz Contemporary Dance Company (Spain), L1 Association (Hungary), Derida Dance Centre (Bulgaria), Sibiu Ballet Theater (Romania) provided the competition with residencies, scholarships and mobility grants.

Results: 26 awards given to the participants in four editions

3. Introducing a pro bono program of professional training courses with a theoretical and practical approach, in order to raise the level of dance training and expand the training level to international standards.

Results: 9 contemporary dance workshops and 2 theoretical workshops with approximately 80 dancers, performers, participating actors.

4. The live streaming broadcast of the event aimed to bring the audience closer to the art of contemporary dance, considered niched and to develop the audience through facilitating the access of all social categories.

Results: more than 2.000 online viewers and 1.000 in the auditorium.

5. Building a strategic network of national and international partners to support and contribute to the development of the field of contemporary dance art in Romania, by outlining new perspectives and possible strategies to follow.

Results: 9 institutional partners, 9 private partners, 4 media partners.

ALT National Choreography Competition has grown in importance and complexity and had acquired the meaning of a unique collective moment of the community of contemporary dance art in Romania.

With a unique character in the national context, ALT Contest is the only event of contemporary dance and performance in Romania that combines professional training with audience development. It is an indispensable and desired event both by artists and by the general public, fact demonstrated by its continuity.
